Wallonia-Brussels? A cultural hotspot!

You might not know much about Wallonia-Brussels’ cultural scene yet, but trust us, we’ve already left our mark on the world!

From our deep-rooted traditions to our pop culture icons, from music that fills international arenas to food that delights taste buds everywhere, our region is a place where heritage and innovation go hand in hand.

A place where history lives and breathes

Step into Wallonia, and you’ll find traditions that have stood the test of time. The Carnival of Binche is a spectacle like no other, where the famous Gilles, dressed in elaborate costumes, parade through the streets, tossing oranges for good luck. Meanwhile, in Namur, stilt jousters have been battling it out for over 600 years, keeping an ancient practice very much alive.

Both these celebrated have been listed as “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO.

But we’re not just about tradition. We’re also the birthplace of world-changing creativity. René Magritte’s surrealist masterpieces challenge perceptions, while comic book legends like Hergé (Tintin) and Peyo (The Smurfs) have entertained generations.

If you love art, storytelling, and a touch of the unexpected — welcome home!

Music that moves the world

Wallonia and Brussels know how to put on a show! Our festivals, like Dour and Les Ardentes, bring together music lovers from across the globe, featuring everything from rock and hip-hop to reggae and electronic beats.

And our artists? They don’t just top the charts, they define them!

Stromae’s infectious rhythms and socially conscious lyrics have made him a worldwide sensation, and Angèle’s voice has reached millions, even performing at the Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

A place for everyone

We don’t just welcome diversity, we celebrate it. Wallonia-Brussels is recognized as a “Zone of Freedom for LGBTQIA+ People,” with lively pride parades, drag shows, and a strong sense of community. Inclusivity isn’t just a value here; it’s a way of life.

Come hungry, leave happy

If there’s one thing we do exceptionally well, it’s food. Think warm, golden waffles straight from Liège or Brussels. Handmade chocolates from world-renowned chocolatiers like Pierre Marcolini. Savory Ardennes ham, and, of course, the real Belgian fries — born in Namur centuries ago.

Whether you’re dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant or grabbing a bite from a local bistro, every meal here is a treat.

What are you waiting for?

Wallonia and Brussels are where history meets innovation, where every street has a story, and where every visit feels like a discovery. But don’t just take our word for it — come and see for yourself.

We’re ready when you are!
